MC Lyte born Lana Michele Moorer October 11,1971 is an American rapper who first gained fame in the late-1980s becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with 1988's critically acclaimed Lyte as a Rock. Lyte was born Lana Michelle Moorer in 1971. Raised in Brooklyn, Lyte began rapping at the age of 12. Two of her brothers later formed the hip-hop duo, Audio Two, which later helped to collaborate on Lyte's records.
2. Lauryn Hill
Lauryn Hill born May 26, 1975 is an American recording artist, musician, producer and actress. Early in her career, she established her reputation as a member of the Fugees. In 1998, she launched her solo career with the release of the commercially successful and critically acclaimed album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The recording earned Hill five Grammy Awards, including the coveted Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

Missy Elliott born July 1, 1971, is an American recording artist, award winning producer, singer-songwriter, dancer, actress and clothing line designer. With record sales of over seven million in the United States, she is the only female rapper to have six albums certified platinum by the RIAA, including one double platinum for her 2002 album Under Construction.

Da Brat born April 14, 1974, better known as Da Brat, is an American rapper and actress. Her debut album, Funkdafied, sold one million copies making her the first female rapper to have a platinum-selling album. Harris was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois. Her parents were never married and Harris was subsequently raised in two different households.
6. Jean Grae
Jean Grae born November 26, 1976 is a hip hop artist from New York. Born in Cape Town, South Africa on November 26, 1976, the daughter of South African jazz musicians her father and mother are the celebrated musicians Sathima Bea Benjamin and Abdullah Ibrahim, she studied Vocal Performance at the LaGuardia School of Music & Art before majoring in Music Business at New York University.
7. Rah Digga
Rah Digga born Rashia Fisher is an American rapper. Well known as a long time member of the Flipmode Squad, a hip hop group led by Busta Rhymes, she parted ways amicably with the group in 2007. She has been called one of rap's most prominent women MCs by Allmusic and one of hip-hop's most skilled female MCs in the book How to Rap.
8. Lil' Kim
Lil' Kim born July 11, 1974, better known by her stage name Lil' Kim, is an American rapper and actress who was a member of the group Junior M.A.F.I.A. and is currently signed to G-Unit Records. Jones was born and raised in Brooklyn, living much of her adolescent life on the streets after being expelled from home. As a teenager, Kim would rap for fun, being heavily influenced by other female MC'S like MC Lyte and Lady of Rage.

Eve born November 10, 1978, is an American recording artist and actress. Her first three albums have reached a total of over 8 million albums sold worldwide. She has also achieved success in fashion as she started a clothing line titled Fetish. She ranked number 46 on VH1's 50 Greatest Women Of The Video Era show list.
10. Foxy Brown
Foxy Brown born September 6, 1979, better known as Foxy Brown, is an American rapper known for her solo work as well as numerous collaborations with other artists and her brief stint as part of hip hop music group The Firm. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, her father Keith Stahler abandoned the family at a young age to pursue his career at ERAC records. Her albums include Ill Na Na in 1996, followed by Chyna Doll in 1999, and Broken Silence in 2001.
