Michael Fassbender born 2 April 1977 is a German-Irish actor. He is best known for playing Lt. Archie Hicox in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds 2009 and Magneto in the superhero film X-Men: First Class. His other credits include Jane Eyre 2011, the Sky One television series Hex, the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, Zack Snyder's 300 2007, and the 2008 BAFTA-winning film Hunger.
Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, West Germany (now Germany. His mother, Adele, is Irish and a native of Larne, County Antrim, and his father, Josef Fassbender, is German. According to Fassbender's family lore, his mother is the great-great-niece of Michael Collins, an Irish leader during the War of Independence.
